In honour of World Suicide Prevention Day, here are some of my favourite musicians (and one photographer) with The Suicide Sign.
If you’re having trouble reading the sign, it says “Suicide does not end the chances of life getting worse. Suicide eliminates the possibility of it ever getting better.” This project was created by Carlos Navarro, a merch guy for different bands.
Music and mental health are both very important to me. This project bridges the gap between the two. Personally, whenever I am feeling particularly down, I turn on my favourite music. For that small amount of time, I feel better. You may have different ways of coping, but there is a common element in all of it: You are trying to feel better. Just remember that you are never alone. You can talk to your friends or your family, or even speak to someone on a hotline. For those who may not want to use a telephone for any reason, there are numerous chat-based websites that can help you. Suicide is never the answer.
In Canada, 11 people commit suicide everyday and 210 people attempt suicide. The even more worrying fact is how many people think about suicide on a daily basis; these numbers are not even known. It is important for everyone to be aware of how to prevent suicide. You can learn more at http://suicideprevention.ca/world-suicide-prevention-day-2/.
I’ve captioned each picture with who is in the picture and a link to the original Instagram post. Just click on any of the pictures and you will see who is there.
